Michael Dell launched the company from his UT Austin dorm room back in 1984, but it was the original incentive agreement signed with Round Rock in August 1993 that brought the headquarters to town the following year. The bet paid off for everybody: Dell's sales have generated more than $429 million in sales tax revenue for the city — helping keep property taxes down for decades — and the two sides have since extended the agreement all the way through 2099.
